The delegation of the European Union in Tirana has reacted to the failure to send Olta Xhaçka's mandate to the Constitutional Court for verification.

The EU delegation criticizes the SP and states that the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court by the Parliament is an essential issue.

The statement emphasizes that the SP is not moving in the right direction for Xhaçka's mandate.

"We have also expressed our concerns in the last report on the Rule of Law in Albania, regarding the fact that some decisions of the Constitutional Court have not been implemented by the Parliament, including in relation to this issue, where the decision of the Constitutional Court dates back more than a year and a half ago (January 2023). We were encouraged by the fact that the Speaker of the Parliament, during the opening of the parliamentary session last week, emphasized as a priority the need for the Assembly to follow the remaining decisions of the Constitutional Court. What happened yesterday is not a step in the right direction. The implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court by the Parliament is an essential issue as it is related to the institutional checks and balances in the country's democratic system", the EU delegation emphasizes./ CNA
