Prime Minister Edi Rama invited journalism teacher Mark Marku to his podcast, where he analyzed his governance in 3 mandates.
The head of the government said that during his government there were ministers who were "shot" and for this there was political will.
Rama also gave the message that the fight against corruption is not just a fight for justice, but a fight that must be continued in all institutions.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Mark Marku: You will appear after a year in the elections, 3 mandates, with its pros and cons. In a long government, some basic problems are burdening, corruption, immigration of new generations. What will you say to the Albanians for the fourth term. That's how we are good and we continue like that. Or will you tell them we will do what we have not done?
Edi Rama: This is how we are and we continue like this, I try never to say it. I say yes, we may not be the best, but there is no one better than us. If I feel satisfied, there is no more motive, so in this respect I believe and hope that I am not in danger.
It is true that we have problems, as it would be useless to deny them, but we have given this country an opportunity that it has not had before. A justice that acts independently of political power. We have had ministers "shot" even before, but it was with political will and justice was the rifle to kill them. We have a very important moment of change, how encouraging and fragile it is, and guaranteeing the integrity of the process is indispensable. On the other hand, the fight against corruption is not just a fight for justice, but a fight to have a solidarity and capacity on the entire front of the institutions that devotes space to fight it.... In this respect, we have done many positive things. We need to raise the stake of the fight against corruption much more on the whole front, not just in justice. This is the moment, one of the two moments, that makes the position in relation to the fourth term more tempting to me than anything else. In other conditions, if I had the conviction to complete the mosaic that we have started with the image of Albania, tourism and raising the level of tourism, maybe I would not have the temptation anymore.
Mark Marku: The problem is that you as a government structure do not produce too many corrupt people for justice to work. Let justice not be a factory that grinds the corrupt. The governing system itself works to reduce as much as possible. Something concrete is needed. Ok, justice will be served, but an internal reaction to corruption is needed. /CNA
