On January 6, his mandate "burns"/ Who is expected to replace Ahmetaj
Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj

Returning to Parliament, the socialists are expected to find changes in the parliamentary group. Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj's mandate is at risk of ending on January 6, when it will be 6 months since he was last in parliament.

Ahmetaj continues to be a deputy, but after 6 months of absence, the Constitution forces the termination of the mandate.

According to the Constitution, specifically Article 71, point 2, letter d, the mandate of the deputy ends or is invalid when he is absent from the Assembly for 6 consecutive months. The last time Ahmetaj appeared in the Assembly was the session of July 6, just 7 days before the authorization for his arrest was voted in the Assembly.

According to calculations, January 6 is the day when exactly 6 months of Ahmetaj's absence from the Assembly will be completed, which would automatically result in the loss of the mandate.

After they return from vacation, the Assembly will have to determine the invalidity of the mandate and notify the CEC of the vacancy, while the election institution will make the replacement according to the results of the 2021 elections in the district of Tirana, where Ahmetaj was elected deputy with 11,287 , being ranked in the top 5 list of the most voted SP in this district.

According to the ranking of the SP candidates for Tirana District, the mandate of Ahmetaj will have to be taken by Dallándyshe Bici, who won 4977 votes from the preferential vote and was ranked 21st in the list of SP candidates for Tirana.

But the media reports that Bici may not accept the mandate and Plarent Ndreca may become a deputy.

We remind you that Arben Ahmatej is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, related to the incinerator scandal. On July 20, SPAK issued an arrest warrant for him, while a few days later he was declared an international wanted person./ CNA
