Convicted by the Criminal Court/ The Mayor refuses to resign

The Mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, was found guilty by the Criminal Court of Kosovo of the criminal offense of "active corruption in elections", and was sentenced to one year in prison and a five-year ban from exercising public functions.

However, he refuses to resign from his position and, through a post on social media, emphasizes that he will also wait for the Appeals Court's decision to then accept any verdict of the new justice system.

"Ever since I was entrusted with the task of representing my people, I have been aware of the weight it would bring in every dimension of it."

I have strongly supported the New Justice and as a result I am open to accepting any decision made against me, but this does not prevent me from appealing a decision that is not based on evidence and facts at all.

I emphasize that until a final decision is made and beyond, I am the Mayor of Rrogozhina, in charge of the task and aware of all the responsibilities that this position brings.

Finally, I thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who have been by my side, knowing me, supporting me as a person, believing in my innocent truth, and not turning your back on me even when the situation seems difficult," said Memolla. /CNA
