The member of the leadership of the Democratic Party, Grigels Muçollari, said in a statement to the media, referring to the WHO, that Tirana is among the most polluted cities in Europe.
He emphasized in his speech that dangerous particles are 2.5 times higher and responsible for a number of diseases in children.
Full statement:
Another alarm about the catastrophic state of the air in Tirana and in Albania, comes from the newly published measurements of the Swiss organization IQAir. She finds that in our country the concentration of harmful particles in the air is 3 times higher than the rate suggested by the WHO.
Despite the concerns raised repeatedly, the Albanian government and authorities have not done anything.
The result is what we see and breathe in the air every day and from year to year there is deterioration. The table also shows it.
In 2021, the level of dangerous particles was 12.5 micrograms, i.e. 2.5 times higher. A year later it increases even more, reaching 14.5. And we come to the last measurement for 2023, with 16.7, where the limit set by the World Health Organization is exceeded by 3 times.
Quite different is, for example, Croatia, where according to this report, the level of pollution has been reduced by 40 percent.
PM2.5, as the concentration of these particles is called, is responsible for many diseases, such as asthma, cancer, strokes, lung damage and also affects the development of children.
Health, quality of life and the air that citizens breathe are not a priority for the government and the mayor.
For them, enrichment, privileges, running after money, propaganda, are the main concern.
I have a question for anyone following us. Do you have a relative suffering from allergies, lung cancer, tumors, or children with developmental problems today?
Polluted air, which gets polluted every year and more, is one of the main causes. What are the authorities doing about it? Nothing, on the contrary, they are affecting the worsening of the situation. You see this in the heavy machinery that has been added, in the concrete mixers, in the construction at every end, in the factories that do not respect the standards.
We need to understand why our rulers do not care about pollution. They are all day long either in luxurious offices, or in equally luxurious cars, or in their million-dollar villas in the suburbs or the coast, where the pollution is far from the norms of the capital and densely populated areas.
Albania is today the most polluted country in Europe and no propaganda, no summit, no tree planted for publicity and no orbital forest that does not exist can wash away this.
The government and its environmental policies are the cause of pollution and no one else. In order to clean the air and the environment, the country must be cleaned by this government./ CNA
