Presidential Advisor Speaks: There Will Be a Legal War Unprecedented in 34 Years
Bajram Begaj

Ilir Kulla is an external advisor to President Bajram Begaj.

From the television space of the show "Free Zone", Ilir Kulla warned of a battle that we have not seen in 34 years regarding the Veliaj case.

He also predicted that Veliaj would win the Strasbourg trial and that Tirana would have two mayors.

As for his boss's decree, he says that Begaj should have gone to Venice because the dismissal was illegal.

If he also gave this advice to the President and he eventually did not take it into consideration, then we cannot say that Begaj convinced his staff to sign the decree.

At least Ilir Kulla, as a staff member, has put alternative suggestions on the table. To be honest, Venice was an option that had never occurred to anyone until now. But the President has thrown this proposal in the trash.

"There is a process that needs to be explained. First, there was a political dismissal from the party. With Veliaj, the SP has practically made a divorce, and it expresses this through the request for early elections.

Then there is the legal part, where the Municipal Council voted with PD-PS consensus to dismiss the mayor, with the excuse that he did not show up for work. They made a gross mistake, because he requested to participate in the meeting, and they rejected him. Here is the first slip.

We find ourselves in a legal conflict where Veliaj and his lawyers are doing what they need to, to present facts in Strasbourg, about the violated rights. Begaj could write to the Venice Commission, and could tell them that it is not explained to him in these cases, and he would get an explanation.

In the coming weeks we will see a legal battle that we have never seen before. I predict that the Municipality of Tirana will have two mayors. I predict that Veliaj will go to Strasbourg and come back from there victorious, that the dismissal was illegal, and the Albanian state will have to pay for all the damages that have been done to him. We will see a political and legal battle that we have never seen before."/ CNA
