In one of the sessions of debates on the security of Europe that are taking place at the Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Bucharest, the chairman of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, raised as a concern the danger that comes to the Balkans from organized crime and corruption.

Mediu emphasizes that stability in Albania and the Balkans has two other big enemies, organized crime and corruption, which are based on the attack on free and fair elections.

"We, in our countries, must ensure democracy, based on free and fair elections. And that is exactly where organized crime starts, with the buying of votes and the intimidation of voters, without free and fair elections", said Mr. Mediu.

He further asked the organization to pay more attention to the Balkan region, especially regarding the election standards.

"Since the OSCE stands for free and fair elections, I would ask for more attention for the region, for election standards, respect for the rights and freedoms of our citizens, because this is also very, very disturbing and a very big threat to our stability in the region", said Mr. Mediu in his speech at the OSCE Annual Session that is being held in Bucharest.

Sharing the same concern with other representatives about the hybrid war in Moldova and Georgia, Mediu called for the OSCE's attention to the Balkans, which he calls another potential flashpoint for conflict through proxy, proxy governments or in connection with Russia and China.

He mentioned the danger of the separation of Bosnia, the religious and political divisions in Montenegro or the conflict in the North of Kosovo, as some concrete examples of external intervention as an attempt to destabilize. /CNA
