Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has reacted regarding the opening of the Thumanë-Kashar road axis, which he says took 11 years to be inaugurated by the government.

Berisha declares that this axis will be for a fee, while describing it as a punishment for the residents of the north from Thumana to Vermosh and Valbona.

The head of the DP calls on the residents of the northern districts to stand up against the government tax and not to accept discrimination.

Dear citizens, today the Rilindja of Edi Rama inaugurates after 11 years in power, the first 27 kilometers of highway started and completed by it. But expressing my appreciation for every kilometer of road that is built in this country, I am in front of you today to denounce the extreme discrimination, the punishment that Edi Rama inflicts on the inhabitants of the north from Thumana to Vermosh and Valbona, imposing a tax on the arrival theirs in Tirana. I emphasize here that for the Kukës district, the poorest district on the continent, which is about 38-40 years behind Tirana in terms of income, this is the second tax they have to pay after the National Road tax. But on the other hand, this tax is a punishment for all tourists and visitors coming from Kosovo, who together with those coming from Montenegro, Muriqani and Hani I Hotit and from Europe in these axes, make up over 70% of tourists coming to Albania. For visitors from Kosovo, this tax increases their visit or tourist trip to Albania to 17 Euros. Much of this does not exist in any other country, however large, on the European continent.

That's why I call on the residents of the northern districts to stand up against this anti-Albanian, anti-constitutional discrimination of Edi Rama with the tax he has imposed on them. This is because today in all other areas of Albania from Tirana to Leskovik, in Qafë Botë, in Kakavijë, you can drive on highways and expressways without any tax. So it is a discrimination that you, dear residents of the northern areas, should never accept.
