Eduard Shalsi and Rilindja as contaminated ice cream

In July, there was a fierce debate in the Economy and Finance Commission between Eduard Shalsi and the head of KLSH, Arben Shehu, about the contaminated ice creams.

Everything started after the statement of the head of the KLSH, who said that in 2021, ice creams contaminated with ethylene oxide, which cause tumors, leukemia and affect the reproductive capacity of men, were marketed.

In relation to the sale of contaminated ice creams, the head of the SAI underlined that the AKU was notified immediately and should take measures to stop their circulation, but claimed that this institution did not take any action and did not block this product. (read here)

"On 27.7.2021, ice cream brands were discovered, ethylene oxide in ice creams produced in France, it was discovered by Spain, which then notified 47 countries in the ras system, about the contamination of ice cream with ethylene oxide in some ice creams. Then, on 30/7/2021, an email came from the leaders of AKU about this. AKU was notified immediately and should have taken measures to stop the circulation of contaminated ice creams. Ethylene oxide causes cancer, leukemia, affects reproductive capacity in men. AKU did not take any action, it did not block this product", emphasized Shehu.

Shehu indicated that 13.2 tons of ice cream with ethylene oxide were consumed, as the products were sold mainly in: Tirana, Durrës, Fier, Elbasan, Vlorë, Berat, Lushnjë, Korçë, Shkodër, Sarandë, Krujë, Burrel, Peshkopi, Tropojë and Lezhë.

Eduard Shalsi tried to treat this statement of the head of the KLSH, which in fact shocked the public opinion, in the Economy and Finance Commission with the intention of dealing with it politically, debating with the senior official. He began to ask the "account" why it was not reported earlier, but almost 3 years late.

The majority's sole purpose was not to deal with the essence of the debate, but to attack the KLSH, one of the independent institutions in the country. This was also clearly shown in the case of Mimosa Dëmbit. (read here)

However, there was no lack of an answer from the head of the SSC, who emphasized that the file was referred to the relevant institutions, which were notified in time.

The essence of the matter is that the contaminated ice creams were consumed by Albanians. The questions that arise are: What measures have the authorities taken after the alarm set by the HCLA? Has there been an investigation into this matter? Did the institutions act on time?

After Shehu's statement, there was also a reaction from the National Food Authority, where he emphasized that within 7 days the entire quantity was withdrawn from the market, but KLSH showed the opposite. (read here)

But the issue is deeper than that.

Sources for CNA inform that the High State Control has made a report to the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana about the contaminated ice creams that were in the market, but the prosecution body has not started an investigation.

Surprisingly, the prosecutor who did not investigate the case is one of the people with the strongest ties to the majority who go to the highest levels of Renaissance.

But we emphasize that it is scandalous not to investigate this matter, since these marketed ice creams cause serious diseases such as tumors, leukemia and affect the reproductive capacity of men.

In fact, the persons responsible should be investigated and brought to justice. We are dealing with the danger of human life and it is unacceptable that there is no investigation by the prosecution body, even more so when the report is made by the Supreme Council of the State, which has carried out a series of verifications.

We emphasize that the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana also conducted a cursory investigation into the Oncology scandal, everything was "much ado about nothing".

The scandal regarding the treatment of cancer patients is now in the hands of SPAK, after the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana declared incompetence.

This case once again shows the state in which the prosecuting body is in, which refuses to investigate important issues./ CNA
