Prime Minister Edi Rama was asked this evening by journalists if he will accept the results of the elections in Himara, where Fredi Beleri, the candidate of the "Bashkë Fitomje" coalition, won by a small margin of votes.

Rama said that there is no reason to contest the results of the elections.

He emphasized that the only thing he will do is to wait for the decision of justice regarding the arrest of Beler for buying and selling votes.

"The elections in Himara showed something else. They took place with complete calmness, voting took place without any obstacles or incidents. Representatives of the diplomatic corps were there. There were journalists, Albanians and Greeks. There were local leaders who kept the televisions alive with smoke bombs for what was happening, but which no one could see. There was also the police who guaranteed readiness. Counting was done there like everywhere else in Albania, transparent and peaceful.

There, the candidate opposing the government won by a handful of votes. And this totally rejects any kind of forced argument that there was an attempt to get extra legal or electoral methods from our side. A victory that has nothing to do with the measure given by the court to the candidate in question. I believe that this argument should be enough to avoid confusing things. The accusation raised is not from the government, you know very well how we control it and how much we want to control it... If I, as prime minister, ever raise questions before justice, I will not allow anyone else to do this", he stressed. Rama among others./ CNA.al
