The Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime started yesterday the investigations for former president Ilir Meta, currently the head of the Freedom Party.

Meta is part of the investigations that are being carried out in the framework of a criminal proceeding made in June of this year by former MP Halit Valteri.

Meta, according to the lawsuit, was accused of lobbying and money laundering and this came after an article published in the Austrian newspaper, Kronen Zeitung.

Artikulli akuzonte ish-Presidentin Ilir Meta se kishte paguar 700,000 mijë dollarë për lobim përmes një kompanie qipriote guaskë, që të siguronte një foto në ceremoninë e inaugurimit të ish-Presidentit Amerikan Donald Trump.

Asokohe Meta deklaronte se media kishte shpifur ndaj tij dhe do të ndërmerrte hapa ligjore, për të cilat do të vinte në dijeni dhe ambasadën austriake në Shqipëri dhe tonën në Austri.

Megjithatë kjo padi nuk u bë kurrë.

Lidhur më këtë, është pyetur sot në një lidhje me Euroneësm, ku Meta është justifikuar se gjyqi kishte kosto të larta.

“Nuk e kallëzova, sepse kjo gjë mu vlerëusa e panevojshme dhe jo produktive nga disa kompani që meren me ccështjet e shpifjeve nga mediat.

The lawsuit was certainly won, but due to Austrian law the award was modest in size, and the costs were high. 300 euros an hour for a law firm!
