The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, commemorated today the 37th anniversary of the martyrdom of the dissident poet Havzi Nela.

Through a social media post, Berisha writes about the poet's work and sacrifice,

In addition to the assessments of the case, Berisha recalled the execution of Nela, on August 10, 1988, while mentioning Prime Minister Edi Rama, whose father was an ancestor of those who signed for the event.

"Dear friends, Albanian letters and the entire Albanian nation bow today with the deepest respect, the most boundless gratitude before the immortal work, the sublime sacrifice of the martyr of freedom, the immortal poet, dissident Havzi Nela.

37 years ago, on August 10, 1988, with the signature of the executioners of the Hoxha dictatorship, Ramiz Alia and Kristaq Rama, the biological father of Edi Rama, the prominent poet and dissident Havzi Nela was executed by hanging in the main square of the city of Kukës, to become immortal forever.

The public hanging of the poet, the invincible colossus of freedom, by order of the executioners Alia and Rama, just a year before the fall of the Berlin Wall, was the price he paid for his courage to weave verses that challenged freedoms and human rights, the spirit of Helsinki and occupied Kosovo.

The public hanging of Havzi Nela, this macabre act, shocked the entire Albanian and world public opinion and once again demonstrated the true cruel face of the Hoxha dictatorship and its executioners, Ramiz Alia and Kristaq Rama.

The act had the main goal not only of the regime's primitive revenge against the political opponent, but also of terrorizing the population as a whole and the Albanian intelligentsia in particular, as well as of killing every free verse or word before it was born, before it came out of the mouth.

But today Havzi Nela rests peacefully in the pantheon of freedom of the Albanian nation, while the butchers who ordered his hanging lie in the galleys of political crime and the shame of history.

Today is a day that Edi Kristaq Xhelati can "hang up" within himself the inhumanity of the neo-bloc and show, even for a few moments, a shred of conscience of a civilized man; to condemn the cruel crime of his executioner father and to publicly apologize to the family and at least to the world of letters for the hanging, signed by Ramiz Ali and Kristaq Rama, and by the dissident poet Havzi Nela.

"I am not writing these few lines about politics, because Edi Rama today follows the path of his cruel fathers for an Albania without opposition, with opposition leaders and political opponents arrested in prison and facing political trials.
