Today, only Berisha talks about protests. In meetings, gatherings and conferences, only he talks about protests. No one else. It seems as if Berisha lives in another political dimension and those who remain silent when he utters the word “protest” live in another dimension.
Most of those who have taken on political representational responsibilities lower their heads, pretending not to hear when he talks about protests. It is nice to dress in a collar and suit in the daily political parade, in the studios or in Parliament, and it is another thing to put on "boots" and walk the muddy streets to meet and bring together people who are looking for the opposition and cannot find it on the ground.
There are others who also do calculations. They calculate. And what do I need protests for? What if the regime falls from the protests? What if we go to new elections, where will I be? Will I be or will I no longer be where I am today? There are dilemmas even in the opposition.
It seems like Berisha's most difficult battle at this moment is convincing a part of his own people to protest. That people who are in daily protest with the regime when faced with high prices, increased poverty, where according to World Bank figures one in two Albanians has difficulty even securing their livelihood. Where they face the injustice built into the system and an economy built to serve only a handful of people.
So what else is expected to protest?
The elections were stolen.
International observers did not certify them as free and fair elections. They dismissed them as unfair, bought with government money, and influenced by crime.
What more is expected at a time when the head of the regime is at the most difficult moment of his political career after being caught red-handed stealing by prosecutors along with his deputy.
In Serbia, hundreds of thousands have been in protest squares and confronting Vu?i?'s regime for a year, while in Albania the only one talking about protests is Berisha./ CNA
