A letter for medical students and not only

Dear students who are protesting!

First, I want to say that I am with you, as I am with anyone who chooses to speak out when they feel their rights have been violated.

I am with you, when they tell you that you were educated "for money", with taxpayers' money, and you must return the service to the people.

This is not true. You are being educated with the taxes that your parents have paid, like all citizens in this republic, and you have the right to be educated "like".

But I want to remind you of "something".

There are many people in this country who do not receive medical care. They live in what are called deep areas, which are only a few hours away from Tirana. Because no one prefers to go to work there. People may not need lawyers, engineers, or psychologists every day, but they do need a doctor every day. You have chosen to become a doctor, but a doctor is not just a profession, it is a mission, it is very beautiful but also difficult. If you chose to become a doctor because you will earn a lot of money in hospitals, you are wrong. But if you have chosen it because you feel it as a profession and as a mission, then serving people is a beautiful thing. Do it!

You're on the run!

Those who make the laws to hinder you, and those who urge you to protest against those who make the laws, are the very reason why you want to flee. An elopement that started with your parents and, most likely, will not stop.

But running away is desertion, it's surrender.

Belive me!

As I try to live honestly, many times I regret not running away from this place when I was my age. But I quickly let go of regret and try to do my best in my work.

You want to run away because this place has no hope!

This is true, albeit fatalistic.

But you, WE, all together must do everything we can to change our situation here. I know, there is injustice here, there is a lack of fair competition, there is a suffocating work and living environment, there is an environment where you spend more energy to eliminate the negativity of the system... But running away is not the solution.

I know that leaving is not prohibited by law, because death did not stop Enver Hoxha. I know that many will run away to pursue a career, but running "out of sight" is still fatal.
