-Letter to our compatriots around the world-
by Agron Duka
Dear Albanians living and working abroad.
All parties are asking you to register to vote in the May 11 elections. All parties are asking you to support their candidates. We, as PAA, are doing the same.
But you are seeing how, every day more and more, the government is intensifying meetings, concerts, supposedly socio-cultural and economic activities in the cities where you work and live, in order to get your vote.
Some of you left Albania early and have integrated there!
Some were born there and are foreign citizens!
Some come to Albania regularly, and some less often!
Many of you can see Albania from the televisions that count tourists in Rinas every day or from the video clips that the government itself produces, with beautiful seas, mountains, fields and lawns.
Some of you may have forgotten what it means to go to the hospital in Albania!
You may have forgotten what it means to raise and educate children here!
You may have forgotten what it means for a child living in a palace not to have a meter of space outside to play!
They may have forgotten that here, to work for the state and the government, the recommendation of the ruling party is more important than a diploma and professional skills.
And despite this, Albania has changed. Today, in 2025, it is no longer the Albania of 2020. In 2020, it was not the one of 2015, and in 2015 it was neither the one of 2010 nor the one of 1997.
So, Albania is not the one you left when you left!
But most of this change is thanks to your work, sweat and blood. And despite this, Albania continues to be the poorest country in Europe.
Dear compatriots, we invite you to vote!
But, before you vote, remember that you still continue to be very important contributors to your families here.
You keep your parents here with food, because 60% of the monthly income in Albania goes only for food and they can't make ends meet.
You keep your elderly parents with medicine, and medicine here is more expensive than in Athens, Rome and Milan.
You support your elderly parents with bread and medicine, because the pensions here are the lowest in Europe.
Before you vote, remember that if you don't work there, or if you don't take the paths of seasonal immigration to work on the farms of Greeks and Italians, thousands of families here won't even be able to make ends meet.
Before you vote, remember that all of this is happening in a country governed by a political class that is officially corrupt to the core, and that today comes to you waving red and black flags, asking for your vote to continue to stay in power.
Use your vote to change this reality.
Influence your parents here, so that they are not happy with the alms they give them once a year and a month before the elections. /CNA
