Rare in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia/ A 340-carat diamond is extracted from the ground

A high-quality diamond weighing 340 carats has been unearthed in an underground deposit in Russia's Arkhangelsk region, Governor Alexander Tsybulsky confirmed.

The diamond is one of the five largest types discovered in Russia and the largest ever found during the industrial development of the local V. Grib deposit.

According to the governor, the gemstone stands out not only for its extraordinary size, but also for its quality and market value.

"Such crystals make up no more than 2 percent of all natural diamonds," the Governor noted.

The V. Grib deposit is being developed by AGD Diamonds, a Russian diamond mining company. Russia is the world's largest diamond producer by volume, and the Arkhangelsk region is a key diamond mining area in the country./CNA
