Airbus A380, the oldest active aircraft in the world

The Airbus A380 aircraft operated by Emirates celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first flight, while also becoming the oldest active aircraft in the world.

On January 18, 2005, the aircraft was unveiled as the European manufacturer's entry into the ultra-high-capacity aircraft market. This was a sector that Boeing had dominated since the 1970s with its iconic 747. As such, the A380's entry into this market attracted considerable attention.

Beneath its massive body, the A380’s 22-wheel landing gear system, divided into five sets, distributes its large MTOW with precision, allowing for smooth landings even at fully loaded weights. High-definition external cameras, including tail and nose gear views, assist pilots during taxiing and parking, essential for maneuvering such a wide aircraft.
