Angel Brahimi

The 60-year-old Albanian, Angel Brahimi, who was arrested in January of this year in Canada after being sentenced to life imprisonment in Albania for the murder of a police officer Astrit Braçe and his 8-year-old son, 23 years ago in Fier, is opposing extradition to our country.

Through his lawyer, Brahimi has today asked the Canadian authorities not to extradite him to Albania.

Foreign media reports that lawyer Andrew Barbacki has questioned the way the justice system works in Albania, demanding that Brahimi not extradite his client.

"All we have is the victim's wife who gave a statement five months later that identified the suspect. While, according to the evidence, the attackers were covered with hoods", said Mr. Andrew Barbacki of the defense, this Tuesday, in the Montreal court.

Event:

The serious incident is suspected to have happened for revenge. This is because in 1997, Úngjël Brahimi's brother, Iliriani, was killed in a shootout with the police, after someone had opened fire on an ambulance. Astrit Braçe was one of the policemen present at the time of the murder of Brahim's brother.

In 1999, an assassination attempt was organized against Brace, but it failed. But it didn't end there.

On August 10, 2000, Braçe with his wife, their son Asllan, daughter, granddaughter and grandson were going to the beach. Everyone was traveling in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle and when they were returning, the car was hit by gunfire in the village of Poro-Pishë, where the officer and his 8-year-old son lost their lives. The investigation showed that the author of the incident is Úngjëll Brahimi/ CNA
