Transporting 13 illegal immigrants/ 27-year-old arrested in Saranda

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in flagrante delicto after transporting 13 illegal immigrants from Egypt in a vehicle.

Investigations suspect that these citizens entered Albania illegally, from the border with Greece, and intended to cross illegally to other EU countries.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the vehicle in which the immigrants were transported has been seized as material evidence.

Police announcement:

Saranda/The operation codenamed "Distanca" is finalized, a case of providing assistance for illegal border crossing is cracked down on.

He was transporting 13 immigrants from Egypt by vehicle, for payment, who had entered Albania illegally and were intending to cross into EU countries. He was caught red-handed at night, in the village of Xarrë, and the 27-year-old was arrested.

The vehicle is seized.

The Saranda Border Police Services, following intensive controls and investigative work to prevent and crack down on illegalities, based on information obtained operationally, have organized and finalized the operation codenamed "Distanca", to crack down on a case of providing assistance to immigrants for illegal border crossing. As a result of the operation, the citizen was arrested:

-EY, 27 years old, resident of Patos.

This citizen was caught red-handed, during the night, in the village of Xarrë, transporting 13 immigrants from Egypt in a vehicle, for payment. Investigations suspect that these citizens entered Albania illegally, from the border with Greece, and intended to cross illegally to other EU countries.

The vehicle in which the immigrants were transported was seized as material evidence.

Investigations are ongoing to document this criminal activity and identify other citizens who may be involved.

The procedural materials were referred to the Saranda Prosecutor's Office, for the criminal offense of "Aid for illegal border crossing." / CNA
