Unlicensed currency exchange service/ 2 citizens prosecuted, possessed huge sums

Criminal proceedings are being filed against 2 citizens who were carrying significant amounts of money on the street, in the area called "Dollari", while offering a foreign exchange service without a license.

During the action in the capital, Tirana police seized 24,120 euros, 13,200 Canadian dollars, and 470,000 lekë.

Announcement:

Specialists of the Money Laundering and Criminal Assets Investigation Section of the Tirana Local Police Directorate, during inspections carried out in implementation of the special plan of measures "To crack down on illegal activities", identified that in 2 cases, unlicensed currency exchange was carried out on the street, with money from suspicious sources.

For these cases, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against the 2 citizens who carried out this activity, SE and KF, for the criminal offenses "Practice of financial activities without a license" and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".

The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office for further action. /CNA
