Internationally wanted, Xhevdet Plaku arrested

Durrës police have arrested Xhevdet Plaku, also known as Akili, who is internationally wanted for drug trafficking.

"I am here today, together with the Director of the Special Operations Force at the Criminal Police Department of the State Police, Melsi Koçi, with the Deputy Director for Criminal Investigation, Bujar Deliallisi, and with the Chief of the Durrës Police Commissariat, Algert Gjonaj, to inform you and through you, the public opinion, about the organization, development and finalization of a high-risk police operation, codenamed "Enigma", during which 7 citizens were arrested and put in handcuffs, among them 3 high-risk citizens, previously wanted for criminal offenses in the field of crimes against the person and in the field of narcotics. During the operation, 4 firearms, pistols, which these citizens were carrying with them, with cartridges in the chamber ready to be fired, were seized.

More specifically, yesterday, the structures of the Durrës Local Police Directorate obtained information through operational channels that some wanted citizens, with high social risk, were in the premises of a restaurant in Lalzi Bay and were suspected of having firearms with them.

Based on this information and the risk analysis, the need arose for the involvement in the operation, and of the Directorate of the Operational Force in the State Police.

As part of the operation, under high security measures, the police services intervened unexpectedly in the restaurant premises where these citizens were.

Preliminary checks showed that 7 citizens were sitting at a table, among them 3 wanted persons with high social risk, specifically:

Xhevdet Plaku alias Kiss, 45 years old, resident of Durrës, declared internationally wanted by the Interpol Rome OCC, after the Court of Brescia, Italy, issued an arrest warrant for committing the criminal offense of “Drug trafficking”. This citizen escaped from the Ancona prison in January 2025 and for this reason the Italian judicial authorities have issued an arrest warrant for him. During the search, a pistol firearm with a cartridge in the chamber ready to be fired was found on this citizen;

Flobens Mecia alias Gega alias Drini, 43 years old, resident of Shkodër, declared wanted by SPAK, after the First Instance Court for Corruption and Organized Crime, in July 2024, assigned the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Criminal organization", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a structured criminal group" and "Providing conditions and means to commit murder". During the search, two forged identification documents and 1 firearm, a pistol with a cartridge in the chamber ready to fire, were found on this citizen;

Voltan Xhani, 39 years old, born in Përmet, resident in the Netherlands, after in September 2024, the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Shkodra has assigned him the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Trafficking in motor vehicles" committed in collaboration and "Providing conditions and means to commit murder", in function of the investigations for the clarification and legal documentation of the murder with a firearm of citizen E. Rr., which occurred in Shkodra. During the physical search and in his bag, the Police found 1 firearm, a pistol with a cartridge in the socket ready to fire;

Jugert Xhani, 35 years old, born in Përmet, for the criminal offenses "Manufacture and possession of weapons and ammunition without a permit", "Failure to report a crime" and "Supporting the perpetrator of a crime". During the search, 1 firearm, a pistol and ammunition were found on him;

OH, 38 years old, resident of Mamurras, suspected of committing the criminal offenses of “Failure to report a crime” and “Supporting the perpetrator of a crime”;

FQ, 36 years old, resident of Tirana, for the criminal offenses of “Failure to report a crime” and “Supporting the perpetrator of a crime”;

AH, 45 years old, resident of Mamurras, suspected of the criminal offenses of “Failure to report a crime” and “Supporting the perpetrator of a crime.”

Also during the operation, sums of money, euros and other items were seized as material evidence.

In cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, in-depth investigations continue for the legal documentation of the criminal activity of these citizens.

We emphasize the fact that this operation was organized and conducted in record time, with professionalism, being successfully finalized despite the high degree of danger as I mentioned above, as 3 of them had firearms with cartridges in the chamber ready to fire.

In this context, on behalf of the Director General of the State Police, I thank all the Police employees involved in this operation.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, I would like to assure the citizens of the Durrës district that the structures of the Durrës Local Police Directorate are maximally committed to preventing and combating crime in general and organized crime in particular, to combating cases of illegal possession of weapons, to apprehend wanted citizens and to combat any illegal activity, with the aim of creating a safer environment for citizens, visitors and tourists from all over the world who frequent our district," the announcement said./ CNA
