Had a relationship with the president's brother-in-law/ Dritan Gjika's
Dritan Gjika and Rubén Cherres.

The Ecuadorian police have confirmed yesterday the murder of a person investigated by the Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office in a conspiracy involving the brother-in-law of the country's president.

According to the investigations, the victim is suspected of being a member of an Albanian criminal group operating in Ecuador.

The police and the Ecuadorian Interior Minister, Juan Zapata, confirmed the victim's identity on Twitter: Rubén Cherres.

His name also appears in the appropriation case for which the country's president, Guillermo Lasso, is expected to be dismissed by the decision of the Constitutional Court.

Bashkë me trupin e pajetë të Cherres u gjetëm  edhe tre viktima të tjera, identiteti it ë cilëve nuk është mësuar ende. Trupat e tyre u gjetën në qytetin bregdetar të Punta Blanca, rreth 100 kilometra nga Guayaquil, në jug të vendit.

Prokuroria kishte rihapur hetimin ndaj Cherres pas disa zbulimeve gazetareske. Cherres  kishte kontakte me kunatin e presidentit ekuadorian dhe kishte qenë objekt i përgjimit nga policia mes periudhës “Qershor 2021 dhe Janar 2021 dhe gjatë vitit 2022” për lidhjet e tij me mafien shqiptare me bazë në Ekuador.

Cherres dhe Carrera mësohet se kanë ndikuan në vendimin e qeverisë ekuadoriane për të mbajtur një kontratë me kompaninë shtetërore të transportit të naftës, Flopec, e cila dëmtoi arkën e shtetit. 

Dritan Gjika appears as a businessman in company documents, which show the relationship between Cherre and Gjika. The latter is accused of creating companies during the day which he used for money laundering.
