Young woman ends her life/ Gjirokastra Prosecution initiates criminal

A serious incident occurred on Monday in Gjirokastra, where a 17-year-old girl ended her life after being bullied by her classmates and teachers.

EM, a 10th grade student at a high school in Gjirokastra, was found without signs of life by her father and was transported to the hospital, unable to survive.

Today, the Gjirokastra Prosecution Office announced that it has registered criminal proceedings for the criminal offense of 'Causing suicide' in connection with the serious incident.

"The Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Gjirokastra has registered criminal proceedings for the criminal offense of 'Causing suicide' provided for in Article 99 of the Criminal Code.

Based on the materials referred by the Gjirokastra Police Commissariat, the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction, Gjirokastra has registered criminal proceedings no. 70, of 2025, in relation to the event of 10.02.2025, where the minor citizen IM was found dead in her apartment in Gjirokastra.

"As part of this proceeding, an investigative group has been established, which is carrying out all necessary actions with the aim of fully clarifying this issue, starting with questioning persons who have knowledge of the criminal offense," the announcement states./CNA
