In Albania, law enforcement announced that they destroyed nearly 290,000 narcotic plants and arrested over 110 people as growers and distributors this year.

The police have announced the search for 63 people involved in this activity, in addition to dozens of criminal proceedings for abuse of office and failure to report a crime.

Special forces have just burned nearly 13,000 narcotic plants at the end of an operation in Shkodra County, which affected a series of villages in deep mountainous areas.

A similar operation was carried out by the police in the highlands of Skrapar, where they burned nearly 1,000 narcotic plants and arrested two suspected growers.

In previous stages of the operations in Skrapar, more than 2,000 narcotic plants were burned and 5 of their growers were arrested.

During this week, the law enforcement forces destroyed 6,000 narcotic plants in the highlands of Kruja and arrested two people.

Also, in the highlands of Tropoja, Puka and Lezha, several arrests were made, as well as the burning of nearly 1,000 narcotic plants.

In two villages of Fier, the police arrested two growers of narcotic plants in the act and destroyed the cannabis planted in fields with corn and fruit trees.

During this week, law enforcement arrested groups of young people who distribute marijuana and hard drugs in Tirana, Durrës, Korça and other cities.

The scope of the police operations and their results indicate the continuous cultivation of narcotic plants in vast territories of Albania./ VOA
