The Albanian border police of Kakavija on the border with Greece seized this week in two cases about 30 thousand undeclared euros, while the cases of seizure of undeclared money have increased this year.

Only during the month of August, the Albanian border police said that they seized about 295 thousand euros and over 113 thousand pounds, undeclared at the border crossing points, while the holders of the monetary sums have been prosecuted.

Albanian law obliges persons entering or leaving Albanian territory to declare financial amounts starting from 10,000 euros, or the equivalent of this amount in other currencies.

Police data say that the amount of money seized as "undeclared" during this year at the border is over 1.8 million euros, where the most cases belong to the Port of Durrës, the Airport of Rinas and the Border Point of Kakavija.

The figure so far is significantly higher than other years, and in most cases police investigations have focused on suspicions that the money derives from criminal activity abroad.
