Mass fires in Hawaii/ The number of victims goes to 53

The number of victims from the fires in Hawaii has gone up to 53 while it is reported that 1000 people are missing on the island of Maui.

Governor Josh Green has called this the worst natural disaster in the history of the state of Hawaii.

He said 80% of the resort town of Lahaina, on the island's west coast, had burned and about 1,700 buildings had been destroyed.

Tourists were forced to jump into the sea and stay in the water for hours as the flames moved quickly.

The Maui fires started Tuesday and spread quickly, fanned by winds from Hurricane Dora.

None of the three major wildfires are yet out, although the Lahaina fire is 80% contained.

More than 14,000 tourists have been evacuated and 11,000 people are still without power on the island.
