Yulia Navalnaya, call for protest against Putin

The widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has called on Russians to protest on election day against President Vladimir Putin, forming long lines outside polling stations.

Yulia Navalnaya has vowed to continue her husband's work and continue her opposition to the Kremlin, following Navalny's death last month in an Arctic prison.

In a video published on YouTube, Navalnaya supported the initiative to overload the polling stations to be held this month, elections which are expected to give another six-year presidential term to Putin.

“We have to go to the polling stations at the same time: on March 17 at 12:00. What will we do next? You can choose. You can vote for any candidate except Putin. You can invalidate your ballot. You can capitalize 'Navalny,'” said Yulia Navalnaya.

She described the presidential elections, which will be held from March 15 to 17, as a "farce" and said that Putin "will get the result he wants".

While he was alive and in prison, Alexei Navalny had supported this initiative.

Navalnaya, meanwhile, called all the people who visited her husband's grave in Moscow "the bravest and most honest people in our country".

The Kremlin has threatened to crack down on people paying tribute to Navalny, citing Russia's tough anti-protest laws.

Hundreds of people have been arrested during tributes across Russia.

According to the human rights organization, OVD-Info, five people were arrested in Moscow, due to participating in Navalny's funeral or visiting his grave./ REL
