Jeff Bezos dethrones Elon Musk/ Becomes the richest man in the world

Jeff Bezos has regained the title of the richest person on earth, passing Elon Musk, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index on Monday,  CNN reports. 

The Amazon founder's net worth was $200 billion, while Musk followed with $198 billion. Musk has lost about $31 billion over the past year, while Bezos has gained $23 billion, according to the index. After the news was released, Tesla shares fell more than 7% on Monday.

Musk regained the title of the world's richest person in May 2023, overtaking LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, who runs one of the world's largest conglomerates and includes brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior and Celine. 

Of course, the title of the richest person on earth changes every few months, depending on the performance of the markets. Musk and Arnault still hold a lot of wealth, as of 2020, the net worth of the five richest people on earth has increased 114% to a total of $869 billion, after taking inflation into account, according to Oxfam's annual inequality report./ CNA
