Maria Branjas Morera, the oldest person in the world, celebrated her 117th birthday on Monday. 

Morera, who was born on March 4, 1907, in San Francisco, less than four years after the Wright brothers took off and two years before construction of the Titanic began, has lived in Spain since the age of eight and has lived in the house for 23 years of the elderly. 

In January last year, she entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person in the world, after the death of Frenchwoman Lucille Randon at the age of 118.

"She is very grateful for all the congratulations she received and the interest so many people have shown in her health," said Eva Carrera Boyce, director of the nursing home where Morero lives. 

Morera is currently the 12th person in recorded history to turn 117, and if he turns 118, he will be the fifth. 

She lived through World War I, the Spanish Civil War and World War II in Barcelona, ??as well as the Spanish flu pandemic, and is considered the oldest person to have recovered from Covid, which she contracted in May 2020.
