The US and Jordan drop aid from the air into Gaza

The United States (US) and Jordan airdropped fresh humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip for the Palestinians on Tuesday.

They parachuted more than 36,800 meals, the US military said.

Israel's war in Gaza against Hamas - the US and EU-designated terrorist group - has forced most of the enclave's 2.3 million population to move inside the country and caused severe shortages of food, water and medicine.

The situation in the north of Gaza is more serious, because humanitarian agencies or news cameras are not able to go there, which is why Tuesday's aid was dropped in this part.

Health authorities in Gaza say 15 children have died of malnutrition or dehydration in one hospital alone.

Aid supplies to other parts of Gaza, which have deteriorated since the war began on October 7, have been severely limited in the past month. Entire parts of this territory have no access to food at all. The US dropped the first aid from the air on Saturday on the southwestern Gaza coast.

US President Joe Biden said on the X social network: "The United States is committed to making every possible effort to send more aid to those in dire need in Gaza. We will not sit idly by. We will not let go."

The United States has already repeatedly called on Israel to do more to ease the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, where more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli war, sparked by a Hamas attack in southern Israel on October 7, where 1,200 people were killed. Israel says it is ready to allow more aid into two checkpoints in southern Gaza it has given permission to open, and blames the UN and aid agencies for failing to deliver more aid. .

But humanitarian agencies say it has become impossible in the absence of law and order and that it is up to Israel - whose troops have occupied Gaza's cities and patrol them - to provide access and security for the distribution of aid./ Rel
