Walz and Vance, debate on October 1

The candidates for vice president in the United States have agreed to face off in a debate, to be hosted by CBS News on October 1.

CBS announced it had offered four potential debates in September and October to Minnesota's Democratic governor, Tim Walz, and Ohio's Republican senator, JD Vance.

"See you Oct. 1, JD," Walz wrote on X, before Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign officially confirmed that Walz has agreed to participate in the debate.

Vance also said he accepted the Oct. 1 debate, suggesting that CNN offered to hold an earlier debate on Sept. 18.

Vance said that "this is not going to be like the other fake debates ... where there is no audience," like the one that took place on June 27 between President Joe Biden and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Harris and Trump are expected to participate in the debate on September 10, which will be hosted by ABC News.

Harris later entered the race for the White House after President Biden withdrew from running for another presidential term due to concerns about his age and declining support for him. After withdrawing, he endorsed Harris for the Democratic nomination for the November 5 election./ REL
