The Taliban have marked the third anniversary of their rise to power in Afghanistan with a military parade, despite what international aid groups estimate is one of the country's most complex humanitarian crises.

The Taliban have taken control of the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, on August 15, 2021, after the fall of the Government supported by the United States, and the flight of the leaders from the country.

The Taliban government continues to be unrecognized by any country in the world.

The restrictions placed on women are one of the most problematic points, which the United Nations considers "gender apartheid".

The rise of the Taliban to power is marked in the middle of August, the period of the fall of Kabul, but also at the end of August, when the last international troops left Afghanistan.

The departure of international troops in 2021, according to an agreement reached between the United States and the Taliban on February 29, 2020, has enabled the Taliban to return to power after 20 years.

The Taliban were ousted from power in Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The August 14 military parade was held at Bagram Air Base, about 40 kilometers from Kabul, where US military forces were once sheltered.

About 10,000 men and no women were part of the audience.

Soldiers have been seen with military equipment abandoned by American and NATO forces: howitzers and tanks.

Mohammad Hassan Akhund, who holds the position of prime minister, has praised the Taliban for, as he said, the victory of the Taliban authorities over the "western invaders".

According to a statement issued by his office, he said that the Taliban government "has the responsibility for implementing Islamic law, protecting property, people's lives and respecting our nation".

However, international aid organizations believe that millions of Afghans face "one of the largest and most complex humanitarian crises in the world, three years after regime change".

According to them, 23.7 million people need help in Afghanistan with 40 million inhabitants.

More than 6.3 million people are internally displaced within Afghanistan, while unemployment figures are alarming.

Women are estimated to suffer the most from this regime.

Since the Taliban came to power, women's access to public life has been reduced - many workplaces, parks and gyms - and they have been banned from going to school after the sixth grade./ REL
