The Ministry of Health of Kosovo has again ordered the limitation of working hours in the country for certain categories, from August 14 to 17, due to the high temperatures that the country is facing.
According to a decision published by the Ministry on Facebook on Tuesday, pregnant women must be released from work during peak heat hours, or be allowed to work from their homes.
Temperatures on Tuesday reached 37 degrees in Kosovo and it is expected that this heat wave will continue until Friday.
For this reason, the Ministry said that at the request of the National Institute of Public Health, it recommended that working hours be changed to avoid working in the hottest hours of the day, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
"This decision was made taking into account the best practices for protecting the health and safety of workers during periods of high temperatures," said the Ministry.
She urged companies to allow workers to start work earlier in the morning or work from home if possible.
The decision prohibits construction work in open spaces from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout the country.
In the hours 11:00 - 16:00, work is prohibited for citizens affected by chronic diseases, or for them to work from home, the decision states.
"Provide medical checks for employees who show signs of heat stress and who have been exposed to extreme heat."
The ministry recommended farmers to plan their development in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid exposure to extreme heat.
This is the second time that the Ministry has ordered restrictions on working hours due to the heat.
Last month, she had ordered a week of curfew across the country./ REL
