Von der Leyen: Europe is working on precise plans to send troops to Ukraine

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview with the Financial Times that Europe is working on very precise plans to send a multinational force to Ukraine as part of post-war security guarantees. 

Von der Leyen stressed that US President Donald Trump had assured European leaders that there would be an American presence as part of the support mechanism, noting that this was "clear and repeatedly reiterated".

According to the report, the planned mission could involve tens of thousands of troops led by Europe, with US support at the command, control, intelligence and surveillance level.

The agreement on this direction was reached at a meeting last month between Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and senior European leaders.

A new high-level meeting is expected to take place in Paris on Thursday, with the participation of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and von der Leyen, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron./CNA
