Lithuania installs so-called "dragon teeth" on border with Russia

Lithuania has completed the installation of so-called "dragon teeth" on its border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry announced.

"We are starting from the tactical level, specific obstacles on the border, and later we will combine the entire engineering plan into a conceptual system," said Raimundas Vaiksnoras, commander of the Lithuanian army.

This is the latest step in a series of defensive measures taken by the Baltic country to deter Russian aggression.

"This is a preliminary step aimed at ensuring more effective protection," the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense stated in a post on 'X'.

The three Baltic states, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, are NATO members and border Russia. Lithuania and Latvia also border Belarus, a close ally of Moscow. All three countries have been on heightened alert due to the threat of Russian invasion since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022.

The Lithuanian military is trying to limit access to unused roads connecting the country to Russia to reduce the risk of a ground invasion.

New barriers have also been erected at unused border crossings with Belarus, Sumskas, Lavoriski, Raigardas and Latezeris, and at the Romaniskes border crossing with Kaliningrad. /CNA
