Kosovo police have raided the home of Serb AM, who, along with her boyfriend, JI, a member of the Croatian Air Force, were arrested in Croatia on charges of espionage for Serbia.
The Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the North Region, Veton Elshani, told Radio Free Europe that the raids were carried out on August 27 at around 8:00 PM, following the publication of information that AM had been arrested in Croatia.
Elshani said that Kosovo authorities immediately verified the address of suspect AM, in North Mitrovica.
"We found the location of the house, we received information that there may be weapons in that house, we entered, we searched this house, we found a spray, some cartridges, bullets and we left that place," said Elshani.
According to Elshan, Kosovo authorities are in close coordination with Croatian authorities on this case.
On August 28, the Split District Prosecutor's Office announced that it had remanded the suspects in custody.
According to the Croatian media outlet Index, JI, who served in Kosovo as part of the NATO peacekeeping mission, KFOR, provided confidential information to his partner, which she then passed on to members of the Serbian List.
The Serbian List is the main Serb party in Kosovo, which enjoys the support of official Belgrade.
Meanwhile, NATO has told Radio Free Europe that it is treating with "seriously" the claims that the Croatian pilot revealed to his girlfriend information about the movements of Serbs in the north, as well as members of this mission.
"We take these allegations very seriously. The safety of KFOR personnel and the integrity of classified information are paramount," a NATO official previously told Radio Free Europe.
Regarding this case, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has also contacted the Croatian Ministry of Defense. However, this institution referred to the statement of the Split District Prosecutor's Office regarding the detention of the suspects.
Meanwhile, media in Croatia alluded that EUROPOL was also involved in the investigation into this case.
However, a spokesperson for this institution confirmed to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that this European Union law enforcement agency is not involved in the investigation into this case.
Following the publication of news about the arrest of two suspects for espionage for Serbia, the acting Government of Kosovo has expressed its willingness to cooperate with Croatian authorities on this case, as "the activities of the arrested were carried out in Kosovo."
Serbian List MP Igor Simic said on August 28 that neither he nor any other Serbian List exponent knows AM, denying that any of them had any connection with him./ REL
