Zelensky: Ukraine will respond to Russian attacks on energy facilities

Russian drone attacks on energy facilities in northern and southern Ukraine overnight left about 60,000 residents without electricity.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to retaliate, ordering more strikes deep inside Russia.

Three and a half years into the war, Ukraine and Russia have stepped up airstrikes in recent weeks. Russia is targeting Ukraine's energy and transportation systems, while Ukraine is attacking Russian oil refineries and pipelines.

"We will continue our operations in the appropriate manner for the defense of Ukraine. Forces and resources are prepared. New deep attacks are also planned," Zelensky wrote in a message.

Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, said Russian drones attacked four energy facilities in the Odessa region overnight, while local authorities reported that 29,000 people were left without electricity early Sunday morning. /CNA
