Deadlock in the Kosovo Assembly again / Deputy Speaker from the Serbian minority

The Kosovo Assembly failed to elect its deputy speaker from the Serb minority on Saturday, despite putting all 10 Serb MPs to the vote three times, plunging the constitution of the new legislature into a new crisis.

Two Serbian List MPs, Miljana Nikolic and Igor Simic, did not receive any votes in three rounds of voting each, after they were put to the vote through a draw by the newly elected Speaker of the Assembly, Dimal Basha.

The other MP from the Serb minority, Nenad Rashic, failed to be elected vice president, after receiving 56 votes in favor, five short of the 61 votes needed to be elected.

The failure to elect one of the deputies put to the vote today means that the Assembly no longer has anyone from the Serb minority to vote for as deputy speaker.
