Voa: Supreme Court many efforts to reduce the stock of court cases

In Tirana, the Supreme Court announced today that it has issued more than 21 administrative and criminal decisions every day this year.

The President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, claimed today that the addition of 18 judges is rapidly reducing the number of backlogged court cases.

"Each judge has handled a workload of 440 decisions per year, a record number, which is almost double the best year of this court", said Mr. Sadushi to the media.

He emphasized that the rate of processing cases for this year in the Supreme Court is over 425 percent. "During this year, over one thousand and 846 new cases were registered, while 4 times more decisions were given", said Mr. Sadushi.

The President of the Supreme Court emphasized that the 24,000 delayed cases exceed the reasonable legal deadlines for trial, but he had found 36,000 files and assessed that "the reduction of the numbers so far is impressive", while he hopes that "within two years, avoid all stocks".

Mr. Sadushi emphasized that after the cases of 2017-18 are overcome in the Supreme Court, there will be no more cases that will exceed the reasonable trial terms.

In the statistics of the Supreme Court, the phenomenon of waiving the appeals of the institutions for the decisions of the lower courts was also noted this year. More than three quarters of the 468 withdrawals from recourse belong to public institutions and the rest to individuals.

The Supreme Court has noted the high number of appeals, which clearly do not exceed the level of admissibility, an unnecessary bureaucratic burden, which is decreasing along with the reduction of the stock of cases in this court.
