VIDEO-Scary moment/ Lightning strikes a 33-year-old woman in Mexico

A 33-year-old woman and a street vendor died after being struck by lightning.

Elvia de Jesus and the seller, named locally as Felix Andres, were walking on the sands of Maruata Beach when they were struck by lightning.

Aquila authorities said de Jesús was with her husband at the beach on the day of the incident.

There were other people at the scene who were shocked by the incident.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at least 40 million lightning strikes strike the ground in the United States each year.

Although the chances of being struck by lightning each year are less than one in a million, close to 90 percent of victims survive.

The chances of a person being hit multiple times are much smaller, happening seven times in a lifetime./ CNA
