Venezuela approves amnesty for hundreds of political prisoners

Venezuela's judicial system has decided to release 379 political prisoners, following the approval of an amnesty law.

This law was signed last week by acting president Delcy Rodriguez.

"The prosecution authority has submitted requests for amnesty to the competent courts for a total of 379 people. These individuals will be released and granted amnesty from tonight until tomorrow morning," declared deputy Jorge Arreaza, who heads the committee responsible for the process.

This measure was also unanimously approved by the Venezuelan parliament.

Hundreds of people have been released on bail by President Rodriguez's government since the US operation that captured President Nicolas Maduro in January. /CNA
