At an international event dedicated to collaboration and the future of artificial intelligence, a moment that went viral highlighted the growing competition between two very powerful names in the industry.

On stage at the AI ??Impact Summit in India, in front of political leaders and senior tech figures, OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei avoided holding hands in a group photo, opting instead to raise their fists, a move that was widely commented on on social media.

The moment was captured when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, who were on stage with several others, raised their hands in a triumphant gesture of unity.

However, when it was Altman and Amodei's turn, who were standing side by side, the two men raised their fists instead of holding hands, a gesture that was caught on camera and immediately went viral on social media. The footage comes as the competition between OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, and Anthropic, the developer of the Claude model, heats up.

Both companies are seeking to establish their models as the dominant choice in the global market. However, they have also publicly traded criticism over the potential integration of advertising into AI services. 

The photo between Altman and Amodei was widely commented on. Siddharth Bhatia, co-founder of startup Puch AI, wrote on the X platform: "When will there be general artificial intelligence? The day Dario and Sam hold hands." Andreessen Horowitz investor Justin Moore also posted the photo with the caption: "When they force you to write a paper with your opponent in school." /CNA
