Trump: Peace Board could oversee UN in future

US President Donald Trump said he envisions the Peace Board overseeing the United Nations in the future, pursuing the idea of ??replacing this global body with the new entity.

During the board's inaugural meeting in Washington, Trump stressed that the UN should not be eliminated entirely, but instead, this body should be strengthened to better respond to the world's problems in ways it has not done in recent years.

"The Peace Board will almost oversee the United Nations and make sure that it's functioning properly. We'll make sure that its facilities are good. They need help and they need financial help. We'll help them financially and make sure that the United Nations is sustainable. The United Nations has tremendous potential. A lot of people didn't like what I said. They said, 'Oh, you shouldn't say that, because, you know, we don't care about the United Nations.' No, it's really very important and I think it will eventually fulfill its potential. This will be a great day," Trump said./CNA
