Iran sentences British couple to 10 years in prison/ British Foreign Secretary:

A British couple, detained in Iran since January 2025, have been sentenced to 10 years in prison for espionage, their family announced today after a summary trial.

Lindsay and Craig Forman, both 52, were travelling around the world on a motorbike when they were arrested in central Iran. They have denied espionage charges brought against them by Tehran.

"My parents have been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a trial that lasted just three hours and during which they were not allowed to present their defense ," their son, Joe Bennett, said in a statement, adding that their relatives were deeply concerned.

Regarding their sentence, the Foreign Secretary in Great Britain, Yvette Cooper, has also reacted. She condemned Tehran's decision, describing it as completely scandalous and unjustified.

"We will continue to monitor this case with the Iranian government until Craig and Lindsay Forman are safely returned to the UK and reunited with their families ," Cooper said in a statement. /CNA
