"Very complex issues"/ Trump: I will order the release of government

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will order federal government departments and agencies to find and release files on aliens and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), something he says some Americans have been asking for for decades.

Trump announced the decision through a post on the "Truth Social" platform, describing these issues as very complex and important.

"Based on the extraordinary interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War and other appropriate Departments and Agencies to begin the process of identifying and releasing government files relating to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), as well as any other information relating to these very complex, but extremely interesting and important matters. GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Trump's post reads.

The Republican had previously accused his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama of leaking classified information when he said on a podcast that aliens really exist.

"I don't know if they're real or not, but the former Democrat made a big mistake ," said Trump, who has often criticized Obama.

At the end of the podcast that aired over the weekend, Barack Obama responded to a question about the existence of aliens: " They really do exist, but I haven't seen them."

He added that, as far as he knows, there is no underground facility used to hide their existence, while he was reportedly referring to Area 51, the US Air Force base in Nevada, the subject of endless conspiracy theories. /CNA
