Iran-US conflict/Europeans are taking action

Despite negotiations between the US and Iran, concerns about a possible war are growing. US President Trump again called on the leadership in Tehran to accept US demands and mentioned a deadline of 10 to 15 days, because otherwise, according to Trump, "bad things will happen."

Due to fears of a possible American attack on Iran, European countries are taking security measures for their military personnel in the Middle East.

Following Germany, Norway has also repatriated some of its approximately 60 soldiers in the region due to the security situation, a spokesman for the Norwegian armed forces announced.

The Bundeswehr has reduced personnel in the region

A spokesman for the German Defense Ministry explained in Berlin that the Bundeswehr has further reduced its personnel in Erbil, Iraq. In coordination with partners, the mission has been steadily reduced in recent weeks. Currently, only "absolutely necessary personnel" are on the ground, while the rest have returned to Germany via Jordan, he said.

Foreign Ministry urges Germans to leave Iran

The German Foreign Ministry "expressly" called on German citizens to leave Iran. According to a spokesperson, there are still commercial flights to leave the country, while exit via land routes is also possible.

According to the German Foreign Ministry's crisis prevention list, there are currently several hundred German citizens still in Iran. The German embassy in Tehran is not operating at full staff capacity and can therefore only offer limited consular assistance. /DW
