Ukraine ready for counter-offensive / President Zelensky warns

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during an interview said that the country he leads is ready to launch its counteroffensive to recover the territory occupied by Russia.

"We strongly believe that we will succeed", said Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I don't know how long it's going to take. To be honest, it could go in different ways, completely different. But we're going to do it and we're ready," he added.

Kiev hopes that a counter-offensive to retake territory will change the course of the war with Russia.

The president said last month that Ukraine should wait for more Western armored vehicles to arrive before launching a counteroffensive.

Russia controls parts of Ukrainian territory in the east, south and southeast.

On Saturday, the Ukrainian military said in a daily report that Mariinka in the eastern Donetsk region was the focus of the fighting. Ukrainian forces repelled all 14 attacks by Russian troops there, the report said.
