Prigozhin: 99% of Wagner's members have left Bahmuti

The leader of the Russian mercenary force, Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has said that almost all of his fighters have left the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.

Prigozhin said on Friday evening that 99 percent of his units are now outside Bahmut.

"All positions have been handed over to units of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Everything has been clarified", said Prigozhin.

Wagner's boss has said that his troops will be withdrawn from the front line, but will continue to be stationed in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.

According to her, no "provocations" by the Ukrainian armed forces have been recorded recently.

The commander of Ukraine's air force, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has said that his army has stopped fighting in Bakhmut.

The parties have been fighting over Bahmut for several months.

Before the war started, this city had about 70,000 inhabitants.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Saturday to the American daily, the Wall Street Journal, that Ukraine is ready to launch a counteroffensive to regain control of territories occupied by Russian military forces.

Russia now owns Ukrainian territory in the east, south and southeast of the country.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ REL
