Trains collide in India/ 50 dead and 300 injured

At least 50 people have died and 300 have been hospitalized in India after a passenger train derailed and collided with a freight train in Odisha's Balasore district, Reuters reports.

Rescue operations are underway and "all possible assistance" is being provided to those affected, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

The Coromandel Express train, which travels from Kolkata to Chennai, derailed after the collision and fell onto the opposite tracks, reports said. Many people are still trapped.

"Almost 50 ambulances are working, but it seems that there are many injured people. A large number of buses are being mobilized to transfer the injured to the hospital ," Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena wrote on Twitter./ REL
