Tensions in the north of Kosovo / France and Germany require new elections

France and Germany have asked the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia to organize new elections in northern Kosovo as soon as possible.

The news was confirmed by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, at a conference in Chisinau.

He said that in the coming weeks there will be "clear decisions" about the situation in the north of Kosovo.

This statement comes after President Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Serbian President Aleksandër Vu?i?, as part of the meeting of the European Political Community in the capital of Moldova.

Osmani confirmed that Macron and Scholz asked that Kosovo find ways to hold new elections in the north and that Serbs participate in them.

She declared that "Kosovo is ready to hold new elections in the north if they take place through the legal process."

On the other hand, the Serbian president, Aleksandër Vucic, said that a stable compromise solution is needed.

"We have to convince people in the Balkans that compromise is not a bad thing. It is not easy, everyone is radicalized and no one wants to listen to normal ideas", said Vucic.

Meanwhile, we remember that there were tensions in the north of Kosovo, as the Serbs did not allow the new presidents to enter the offices to take office./ CNA.al
